This Is Who We Are
We are riders, just like you, but the way we got started is a pretty funny story.
Years ago, a group of my friends and I decided we wanted to take
a tour out West. None of us had seen the Grand Canyon, so that was our goal. This
was a pretty high-fallutin idea for us, as we had never gone more than about
two hundred
miles in a day, and most of those miles were pretty close to home. As I began to ask around about touring, most people laughed at me and said I
could NEVER pull it off. Turns out they were dead wrong…and a way of life was born.
Due to busy schedules, we only had a week of vacation to spare for the trip, so
riding out and back was not an option. I put together a five day route from Las
Vegas, NV to Zion Nat’l Park, UT to The Grand Canyon to Sedona, AZ to Kingman, AZ,
and across the Hoover Dam back to Vegas. The route was set, reservations were booked,
and all I needed to do was find a way to get our bikes out to Vegas and back. Bam
– brick wall! The commercial carriers were asking anywhere from $800-$1500 per bike,
with no guarantee on timing of delivery. I owned a sporting goods company at the
time, and as a last ditch effort, I called one of my best customers who happened
to own a trucking company. Here is how the call went:
“Joe, I need to ship 10 bikes to Vegas for my vacation, how much would you charge
me to run them out and bring them back?”
“Well Rick, that depends…”
“On what?”
“On whether I can come on the trip with you!”
I didn’t even know Joe had a Harley, but the next thing I knew, we had found a way
to load ‘em, secure ‘em, and ride the hell out of ‘em! And the rest is history…Rigs
& Rides was born!
Fortunately for you, we have come a long, long way since then, but our goal remains
the same: to make your tour easy, hassle-free and enjoyable. Now, Ship it and Rip
it!Joe Lang is
